Thank you all for sharing your stories.

Being married to an American (not Indian American or American Indian!) perhaps the most difficult decision I have made in my entire life.  It is a very interesting because although i grew up in a very progressive family in India, my husband shatters so many of my misconceptions about my liberation.  India is very traditional when it comes to girls and marriages. And I find myself surprised every day as to how very deeply even I was embroiled in the culture ( I mean all the misogynist aspects) without even realizing it.  Some aspects very visible here too.  A lot Americans the same way too. Everyday is freeing myself from  a stereotype.  We started with my husband taking my last name! Isn’t that cool!  It doesn’t matter that he is American, I bet he would have been the same in any other country.  We make so many invisible boundaries around ourselves it is fascinating when you can actually realize them…Humans beings are pretty much the same everywhere, that is if you can see beyond  color, race, language and food.
