A very good friend of mine sent me this picture. My first reaction was…WOW. This is very very interesting. I had never thought or considered that there are a variety of religions that enable women to wear clothing that covers their hair and body.
I grew up in the Middle East and it was a part of my daily life to see woman wearing the Hijab. In fact, it has actually become a fashion statement and I find them to be quiet beautiful. Click here to read more about the impact of fashion and the hijab:
I think it is important to consider the cultural content of why women choose to wear clothing that requires them to cover their hair and body. I’m a believer that most things in the world fall in the grey area…and most things are not as simple as putting them in the black or white zone. I honestly don’t believe that its as simple as this is the way something should be or not be. I think it is so important to consider the cultural context and the reasons behind why women all over the world would choose to wear clothing that covers their hair and body.
I’ve started to ask why in order to gain a deeper understanding of situations that are different from why I know. Asking why can help us understand the context in which traditions and cultural norms exist.
