Hello. Bonjour. Namaste. Salam.

Stories are magical and are the best way to understand the awesomeness amongst culture! My goal is collect over 1000culturalencounters as there are so many great stories out there! If you would like submit your story click here! Submit YOUR STORY!  Before the stories begin, I would like to thank an awesome dude, Kurt Archer, for this awesome idea and his wonderful support towards my vision of a creating a world where we celebrate our differences.

Thank you all for sharing your stories.

While on a trip to Istanbul I popped into a shop selling gorgeous embroidered boots. I asked to try on a pair and the accommodating salesman grabbed the first pair he could get (didn’t ask my size) and proceeded to jam it onto my oversized American foot. If you can remember the scene in Cinderella where the step sisters are trying on the glass slipper you can get the idea. We jointly succeeded in jamming my size 8 foot into the size 6 boot but were then faced with getting the shaft of the boot over my robust American calves. Since my earlier protestations were all for naught I let the man proceed. Try as he may it was not meant to be. I was jiggled and joggled to no avail. “You have the big cows” he told me. While Turks are supposed to be the greatest salesmen in the world this one made one fatal error — don’t ever tell a woman she has big cows (unless you are actually trying to purchase her livestock)
